Bein a Dad... My thoughts... Just some advice for new Dads...

1) make sure you have a video camera!
make sure you keep it charged
make sure you keep it fed with tape
make sure you use it even though it's a pain
DO NOT miss that first rolling over, sitting up, standing, walking,
puking, peeing, crying, laughing, whining, ok you get the idea...
2) only AFTER your kids get to be 8 can you retire to a plain old digital
camera like me.
make sure you have rechargable batteries
make sure they're charged
make sure you archive ALL your FULL quality pics to dvd or cd
3) spend the time to WRITE DOWN (in a computer file, ideally) all the
insane things your baby does, and toddler says.
record their voices while they learn to talk.
RECORD THEM READING the FULL text of "I'll love you forever"!!!
(a book that you'll never get through without breaking down and crying your
eyes out. Seriously.)
As you have time (again - make time), write down the major things
that are happening in your life. You WON'T regret it!
4) get your kids to PUT stuff BACK - it's a tough thing to accomplish,
but WORTH it.
5) work your butt off. keep the lawn mowed.
6) spend as much time as you can with your kids
- especially teenagers (on their terms).
they won't be around as long as your wife.
7) Try to work ONLY 8 hours, take a half hour lunch,
get there early to leave early, and get your butt home.
Although working pays for the house, try to maximize your kid time.
8) get your kid into activities like sports, cub scouts and such,
but not TOO MANY! Don't fry em or yourself...
Hi quality friends far surpass their weight in gold
9) don't give up - EVER on ANYTHING !!!
